BOYCOTT Outdoor Adventures Whistler - Slaughtered 100 dogs because it was "slow"

Unbelievable!! Here is the story, but in case the link doesn't work this is it:

100 sled dogs shot when B.C. tour business slows

WHISTLER, B.C.—An official of the SPCA in British Columbia says word of a slaughter of sled dogs in Whistler warrants a criminal investigation.

Marcie Moriarty, general manager of the group’s cruelty investigations, says the description of the April 2010 incident is an “absolutely criminal code offence,” although there is no indication a police investigation is underway.
Documents obtained by CKNW radio reveal about 100 healthy sled dogs were killed in a mass slaughter in Whistler last April 21 and 23.

According to the WorkSafe B.C. documents, an employee of Outdoor Adventures Whistler has been compensated for post-traumatic stress disorder after being ordered to shoot the animals.
The documents reveal bookings for dog sled tours collapsed after the Olympics and when the company could not find homes for its animals, it ordered the cull.

Outdoor Adventures Whistler did not contest the details in the WorkSafe documents except to indicate that the injured worker claimed to have killed 70 dogs, but 100 were actually destroyed
How could this happen?? Was an attempt even made to rehome the dogs? To find rescue groups?  And it's all very well the guy that slaughtered them gets compensation for "post-traumatic stress" - just MAYBE he should have contacted the BC SPCA before shooting those dogs!!  And just MAYBE he could have SAVED those dogs.

This was, to my mind, a MORAL choice. I can think of no situation that would force me to do what this man did - not even the possible loss of my job.  The company is unequivocablly at fault here ; I wonder what pencil pusher "suit" in the boardroom decided that the bottom line necessitated the wholesale slaughter of healthy dogs  - but the actual individual who carried out those orders is equally at fault.  To say "I was following orders" has already been proven in war crimes courts to be a fallacious defence.

I am outraged, disgusted and furious - this company needs to be BOYCOTTED and be put out of business!

I have emailed the company to ascertain whether in fact it is THIS company that did this heinous deed - check out the website.  If so, then I STRONGLY urge EVERYONE to write to the company via their contact information and express your outrage and disgust.

I have done so and told them I will be actively seeking a boycott of their company as well as exposing to the best of my ability their outrageous solution to "excess" dogs.

  1. Completely outraged this company must be shut down and not allowed to run any part of its business. This is not acceptable practice of business and hopefully the employee who participated realizes that it could have been handled better and that he/she should have stood up for the animals who could not protect themselves. A reminder that just because you asked to complete a "task" at work you are not required to comply and should always use individual judgement...this could have been prevented shame on everyone involved...disgusting! Firm criminal charges better follow.

  2. I just found out about this today. I want to see the owners, including ALL those involved in these senseless murders punished!

The person seeking compensation obviously had no moral compunction about this murder so I see him as an opportunist looking for a way to cash in on this despicable travesty!

  3. I am just disgusted with this! What kind of person would even think of doing this before quitting his job or picking up the phone to call the SPCA??? WTF is wrong with people?? And now you get disability because you are stressed? I hope you see those dogs and the suffering you put them thru every time you close your eyes you sick s-o-b and may what they went thru and what you witnessed haunt you for the rest of your pathetic life!

  4. From their website: "Outdoor Adventures is committed to being an industry leader in stewardship and sustainability... Through this process we have developed a number of programs to reduce our footprint on the natural environment. We continually work to educate our staff and guests and will continue to lead the adventure tour business into the next generation of environmental best practices."

  6. "this company must be shut down and not allowed to run any part of its business."

How about the many dozens of employees who earn a hard and honest living in other division of this company (many of them have kids)? Do they deserve to loose their seasonal job right in the middle of the season ?

  7. Re: "How about the many dozens of employees"...

They don't deserve to lose their jobs, but if I were an employee there, regardless of my financial situation, you can be sure I'd be putting in my two-weeks-notice as soon as I found out about this. Especially if I were one of the ones who had kids. It sets the wrong example. Period.

  8. If the company is that immoral- then yes, sorry - if they treat living creatures like garbage, then I highly doubt they treat their employees much better. And I agree with the above comment - jobs do not trump ethics - contrary to what many corporations feel.

  9. On their flashy site www.adventureswhistler.com it reads:
"Largest dogsledding operator in North America. Lengthened tour means more time with the puppies!"

It should be updated to read "business was slow so we killed the puppies."

That POS owner will lose the remaining dogs, be charged, and his business will die quicker then some of those dogs!

  11. Everyone post this one on your facebooks. Let us encourage boycott of this company! Appalling and disgusting!

  12. The only way to send a message that is understood is to boycott Whistler, PERIOD! Stay to hell away from this Resort Municipality. Pressure from the other businesses, Mayor and citizens will do much more than trying to boycott this business alone (although that is a great idea)

I will cancel my March reservations and go to the interior.

This is an outrage an cannot be tolerated.

  13. Heart broken, i wept as i herd the story. Sick sick people, the one who ordered this is just as guilty as the heartless idiot that pulled the trigger. He doesnt deserve workers compensation, he only deserves one of the bullets he used to murder them

  15. I heard of this terrible crime yesterday on the news and have been sick ever since.I feel that everyone involved should be punished and not just find it was a crime of cold blooded murder and the people should be punished for the crime.I feel they should be shut down but what will happen to the dogs that they still have.I just hope the punishment suits the crime.

  16. I agree that this was wrong and I think boycotting is a great idea but what happens to the rest of the dogs if we do?
