Micheal Bryant is a incompetant communist. Incommetant laws passed by communists in a multi-cultural democratic country should be challenged and critisized at every oppertunity.
I do not think you are the best person to judge who is, or is not competent. I’m no fan of Bryant, but if you are to criticize him, then you must do it properly. Please brush up on your understanding of communism. With regards to the bill, I think that breed specific bills are wrong, but I also think there should be more comprehensive legislation on the ownership of large animals with respect to training and public safety. Without proper care and training, there is a chance that large animals can be very dangerous.
M. Pike - agreed that legislation should address irresponsible owners rather than a specific breed. Unfortunately, the panic factor seems to come into play every time there is an incident. Despite volumnous evidence that targetting a breed does not address the issue, ill-advised politicos continue to froth at the mouth and place the blame on the animal.
During the public hearings on bill 132 (now the dog owners liability act)43 experts opposed the breed specific portion of this bill. Only 1 supported it but that expert would have been just has content banning every breed that wasn't of the teacup variety. One of the breeds included in the bill has never been involved in a biting incident in this country. There are other breeds with higher bite ratios but were not included. Almost everything leaned against breed banning but Bryant still included it in the law. Is this an example of incompetence? I don't think so. I see it more like a politician creating a law that would give the apperance as though the provincial government was doing something about a problem. This is nothing more then cosmetic legislation. Its perceived has a working solution but the root causes still exists. To blanket dogs by type is wrong and it should be corrected. All dog owners regardless of breed should be accountable for the actions of their dogs.
